I have always had a fascination with Alfred Hitchcock’s movies as a child. I think it was the mix of horror with mid century glam. There would be reruns on of Alfred Hitchcock presents late at night and I would take glances during sleepless nights.
Now as an adult and designer, I am drawn to both mid century glam themes and steampunk ‘horror’ in my work. Alfred Hitchcock had the ability to marry both themes in perfection.
As I go through images of the infamous director and creator, I am drawn to the above image. A lot of our steampunk pieces incorporates the crow or raven. Even though the bird on Mr. Hitchcock’s cigar may not be the raven I find similarities to our raven and this image. Image available at www.thefilmstage.com
Our Hollywood Icons items work best when it is a drawing of the icon’s face. We have images of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Twiggy, Charlie Chaplin and Alfred Hitchcock. This image is great because it plays with shadows nicely. We paired it with a reversed scallop felt trim (of course in black) which is more masculine in shape. You can find this pillow in either a 14″ x 14″ or 16″ x 16″ with the following links https://www.etsy.com/listing/124437969/decorative-throw-pillow-cushion-cover?ref=shop_home_active & https://www.etsy.com/listing/129957403/alfred-hitchcock-hand-screen-print?ref=shop_home_active
There are tons of alternate posters of Mr. Hitchcock’s movies. I really liked this one by Victor Hertz because it modernizes the movie a bit. I also get the feeling that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo from this image (which is another favorite genre). It also combines the “girl” with the other star of the film the “birds”. Here is our original crow/raven image. It is a nice size for our pillows and has a sophisticated touch to it. We paired it with a bold, mod, geometric stripe. I actually made these pillows for my personal home. You can find the pillows at https://www.etsy.com/listing/102806970/raven-accent-pillow-cover-crow-screen?ref=shop_home_active
This is our newest raven/crow image. It is bigger and slightly more mean in appearance. I am really happy with the way it screen prints. It reminds me of the crow/raven described in many of the Stephen King novels, always watching… We paired this crow with a light color burlap and with our ribbon looped through a wooden button detail. All of our birds (crows and non crows alike) look wonderful with the burlap and are great sellers. Our original Crow on Burlap pillow even made its appearance on the front page of Etsy last year. We just screen printed Mr. Hitchcock on our tea towels (all of our screen prints can be used on a tea towel). While photographing him, we thought it would be more than appropriate to have a shot with his beloved bird.
